Messages To The Future® are a wonderful complement to your Time Capsule - especially if they are written by friends and relatives and sealed for 10 or more years. The major obstacle here will be persuading yourself and others to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard, if you prefer).
If you don't know what to write, look for suggestions on the back of the envelopes - consider something along these lines:
From Friends: amusing stories; how and when you met; life at school; daily life in the world today; current topics, and hopes and predictions for the future and the future of the world. Use extra paper if necessary.
From Mom and Dad: a rundown of the events (frustrations, humor, anticipation and emotions) that surrounded your growing up; hopes and predictions for your future and the future of the world.
From Grandparents: their most memorable recollections of your childhood and hopes and predictions for the future; what life was like when they graduated, got married etc....
From Siblings: their most memorable recollections of growing up with you and hopes and predictions for the future.
A sealed Message To The Future® can be considered a time capsule in and of itself. Small items, such as photos, that easily fit in the envelope can be included to enhance the personal message. We encourage you to include all Messages To The Future® in your time capsule. If possible, invite all writers to the time capsule opening ceremony and have them read their letters aloud. This will be a big thrill for everyone involved.
The official opening date for all sealed Messages To The Future® should be consistent. Make sure you give this date (month, day, and year) to each letter writer.
