Engraving Fonts: > About Selecting A Font

General Instructions:

  • Capitalized letters are the most prominent, and will dictate the overall look of your engraved item.
  • Please do not fill out the form in all capitals unless you want the engraving to be all in caps. We will engrave exactly what you type in! All caps in a fancy font is hard to read.
  • Each line can contain about 20 characters. This varies with the item you want engraved. A larger item can be engraved with more letters. Keep this in mind: the height of the letters are affected by the length of the line. The more letters on one line, the smaller the font has to be. If you are unsure, place a note in the comments section and we will be happy to contact you BEFORE we engrave.
  • When placing your order, be sure to select the font style you prefer. If a style is not selected, we will use the default style, Zurich Calligraphy.
  • We reserve the right to change the font style selected to a font that will enhance the look of the finished product. This is very rare, and we will make every effort to contact you before doing so. Please make certain that you enter your contact information, including phone number and e-mail in case such a situation arises.
  • Engraved items are not returnable unless WE make a mistake in spelling. We will spell the engraving exactly as you submit it with your order, so... Please double check your spelling!
  • Engraved is generally CENTERED unless otherwise specified.

Anniversary Engraving:

  • Traditionally, both names appear on both glasses, with the husband's name first. However, we will engrave the names in whatever order you indicate. If both first names are extremely long, you may wish to engrave one name on each glass.
  • In the date, the year that should be engraved is the year of the anniversary, not the year of the wedding. For example, if a couple is celebrating their 50th anniversary on November 9, 2004, although they were married on November 9, 1954, the date should read November 9, 2004. If you engraved November 9, 1954, it would appear that on November 9, 2004 the couple would be celebrating their hundredth anniversary!
  • Please review the information presented under "Bridal Engraving" and "Dates & Ampersands" below for further clarity.

Bridal Engraving:

  • Engraving for first names and month will appear in upper and lower case.
  • Names are engraved on the first line. All other text is engraved on the second line or subsequent lines ~ UNLESS otherwise specified in the Comments Box.
    • Example: Lawrence & Rachel
                    December 4, 2004

  • You have the option of engraving the groom's name on one glass, and the bride's name on one glass.
    • Example: Lawrence
                    December 4, 2004

                    Rachel
                    December 4, 2004

  • Traditionally, the groom's name appears first when you have both names on both glasses. We will engrave the names in whatever order you indicate when filling out the order form.
  • Please keep in mind that more letters means smaller sized lettering! If you have two very long first names, you may with to use the shorter version of those names, i.e.: instead of Christopher & Patricia you may wish to use Chris & Patty, or engrave one name on each glass.
  • Designs are engraved below the first line of engraving and above the second line of engraving.
  • Each line can contain a maximum of 20 characters.

Dates & Ampersands:

  • We generally prefer to engrave the dates fully spelled out, such as December 4, 2004. However, we will engrave the date in whatever format you prefer.
  • Alternate Date Formats based on December 4, 2004:
       Dec. 4, 2004, 12 - 4 - 2004, 12 - 04 - 2004, 12 - 4 - 04, 12 - 04 - 04
  • Military or European Date Formats based on December 4, 2004:
       4 December, 2004, 4 Dec., 2001, 4 - 12 - 2004, 4 - 12 - 04, etc...
  • If the names you are having engraved are extremely short, you may wish to choose a shorter date format, i.e.: with Tom on one glass and Val on one glass, you may wish to opt for Dec. 4, 2004 so the length of the date fits the names better.
  • And vs. Ampersand: If you are having two names engraved per line, then please indicate whether you wish them to be linked by "and " or by an amperand, "&". A sample of the ampersand is included with each font sample. (See Font Samples)

Monogram Engraving:

  • IMPORTANT! For all monogram engraving - the Last initial is in the center. We will assume that all initials entered are in the correct format: First-Last-Middle whenever monogram style is selected.
  • No additional lines of engraving or designs may be added when monogram style is selected.

Metal Engraving:

  • Designs are not available on metal items.
